Summer Salmon seasons look promising

The Puget Sound salmon forecast for 2011 has been released and the salmon season setting PFMC and NOF meetings have started.
With a forecast of several million pink salmon, increased Chinook and Coho numbers from last year in most rivers connected to Puget Sound, opportunities for recreational Salmon fishing should be plenty and wide spread.
Having said that there is always a depressed fish stock or river of concern and these meetings are held to address that and design a fishing pattern to protect the weak stock while allowing fishing on the strong runs. After attending these meetings and working on this process for well over 20 years now I know that there will be a few surprises thrown in to keep us engaged and on our toes.
The final PFMC meeting this year is in California April 9 – April 14 and the 2011-2012 Seasons will be finalized by the end of this meeting.
